EdCamp

In class today, we got to explore doing our own mini Edcamp.  Edcamp is the idea of sharing professional knowledge, learning from other professionals and taking leadership roles on topics of your choice.  Professional or not, in Edcamps you all come together to share thoughts and ideas on things that you are passionate about in the field of education. It is an awesome way to learn more about a topic you are interested in. Before being introduced to Edcamps in class, I had no idea what they were. It was fun learning about them and getting to be apart of one with my class. The topic I chose to go discuss was if teachers are being too accommodating to students. This interested me because I knew that everyone would have interesting opinions and I wasn’t really sure of the answer, so I wanted to go to find out what most people were thinking about the topic.  The people who came to this session all had their own opinions but were also respectful of other people opinions. There were other discussions happening about outdoor learning, special education, and more.

After doing an mini Edcamp myself, I can see how useful they can be for professional learning. There are so many reason as to why Edcamp is a beneficial activity to participate in, and I am excited to hopefully be apart of more in the future.
